Private rents in Portugal hit another record high

House rents per square metre increased by 2.8 percent in August compared to the same month of 2021, accelerating from 2.7 percent in July and with all regions showing year-on-year growth.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), in August “all regions showed positive year-on-year variations in housing rents, with Lisbon and the Azores recording the most intense increases (3.1%)”.

The Azores and Lisbon were the regions with the most noticeable increases.

As for the average value of housing rents per square meter, there was a monthly rise of 0.3 percent, the same value as the previous month.

The region with the highest positive monthly change was the Azores (0.6%), with no region having a negative change in the respective average value of housing rents.
