UK cities draw more buyers as search for flats rise

Cities in the United Kingdom are attracting more prospective property buyers with demand for apartments outdoing that of houses in the autumn.

According to a report in The Guardian, property prices in the UK hit record levels during Covid as factors including the rise of home and flexible working fuelled a buying explosion outside cities.

However, as employees return back to work with the new normal hybrid working patterns interest in apartments has augmented.

The report cites Tim Bannister - Property Director at Rightmove, that when the housing market reopened in May, there was increased demand to move away from the capital. “However, in recent months we’ve seen higher demand to live near London” said Bannister “with buyer inquiries returning towards pre-pandemic levels. This is happening quicker than some will have anticipated, and is likely driven by many businesses encouraging a hybrid, rather than fully remote working model.”

According to the UK’s leading property portal Rightmove, apartments had become the most sought for property type among prospective buyers, displacing the popularity of houses throughout the pandemic.
