Portugal's Costliest Cities for Home Buyers

The latest findings from Idealista shed light on the escalating property prices in Portugal, albeit at a slower pace. According to their data, housing costs across the country remained relatively stable in April, with the median price per square meter standing at 2,622 euros.

Based on the idealista price index, the most significant rise in house prices among 15 district capitals from March to April occurred in Portalegre, where prices surged by 6%, leading the increase.

Regarding annual adjustments, Portugal experienced a notable increase of 5.8% in house prices. Apart from Portalegre, 15 district capitals witnessed price surges, with Bragança recording a rise of 4.7% and Évora experiencing a notable increase of 3.6%. Conversely, certain cities like Guarda observed a slight decrease (-1.2%) in housing prices.

Housing prices hold steady in April compared to the previous months as diverse patterns in Portugal's real estate landscape emerge.

In the meanwhile, the capital city of Lisbon continues to hold the title of the most expensive city to buy a house, with prices reaching 5,585 euros per square meter. Following closely are Porto (3,566 euros/m2) and Funchal (3,304 euros/m2). On the other end of the spectrum, Guarda remains the most affordable city for purchasing a home, with prices as low as 764 euros per square meter, trailed by Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Beja, Bragança, and Santarém.
