Shoddy workmanship in the UK can now be challenged

Homeowners in England and Wales will now have 15 years to legally challenge shoddy building work, the UK government announced today.

Speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr programme, the Government will be changing the law to give home-owners up to 15 years to take action against rogue developers, the Housing Secretary confirmed.

The changes come on the backdrop of concerns that UK homeowners are bearing the cost of fire safety works despite the Government having set aside £3.5 billion to replace unsafe cladding for residential buildings 18m or higher in addition to the £1.6 billion already announced in 2020.

For those unaware, this change to the Building Safety Bill was introduced amidst the Grenfell Tower tragedy and related cladding crisis.
