Market shift in real estate sentiment in Portugal

Thanks to the current coronavirus pandemic, the property buyer sentiment has altered in Portugal with prospective flat purchasers now looking to buy real estate outside urban areas. A recent study by ECO has revealed that buyers are now opting to purchase villas rather than apartments outside city areas.

According to the study, the demand for villas increased significantly between April 2020 and April 2021, representing 37 percent of the total purchases made in mainland Portugal and the islands. This is equivalent to a total of 302,171 transactions, while 111,301 were related to villas purchased through mortgages or other bank financing.

The market shift for villas is quite clear with 4 out of every 10 properties purchased in Portugal during COVID being villas.
