Portugal’s Golden Visa surpasses €6bn in investments

Portugal’s Golden Visa (GV) Investment Residence Permit programme is booming with a whopping €6 billion funds raised ever since its launch in October 2012, SEF’s data revealed this week.

Figures released by Portugal’s Foreigners and Borders Service - Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras – (SEF) illustrate that the ARI grant programme touched €6,010,994 with investments just in October 2021, reflecting an increase of 72 % compared to the previous month and 62 % year-on-year.

While quite a few property markets in Europe were severely affected by the pandemic, Portugal’s real estate industry was left comparatively unscathed with overall investments corresponding to €5,434,644,035 and purchases for urban rehabilitation amounting to €341,919,339.

According to SEF statistical data, 17,014 residence permits have been granted to reunited family members, of which there were 964 this year. However, it has been noted that the average family size for approved applications fell by 20% since 2017.
